Privacy Notice

Who I am

True-U is the private practice of Julie Barrett MBACP, a BACP Registered Member (registration number 415340), based in Ashley Cross, Poole, Dorset. I am the data controller for the personal information described here, and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

If you have any questions about this notice or your information, please contact me at julie@true-u.org or on 07956 574493.

What information I collect

• When you get in touch by phone, email, WhatsApp or social media: your name, contact details and anything you choose to tell me in your message.
• If we work together: your contact details, appointment details, and brief session notes. These may include information about your health and wellbeing.
• If you buy a journal: your name, email address and delivery address, and details of your order. Payments are handled by Stripe, so I never see or store your card details.

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking, and has no forms that store your information.

How and why I use it

• To reply to your enquiry and arrange a consultation or sessions.
• To provide therapy safely and keep the records my profession and insurers expect.
• To process, post and support your journal order.
• To meet my legal, accounting and professional obligations.

The law allows me to use your information because it is needed to provide the service you have asked for (a contract), because I have a legitimate interest in running my practice, or because I have a legal obligation. Information about your health is handled with extra care, and only for providing therapy, with your consent or as the law allows for health and care services.

Who I share it with

I never sell your information. I only share it where needed to run my practice:

• Stripe, to take payment for journal orders.
• Royal Mail, to deliver your order.
• My email, phone and messaging providers (including WhatsApp), which carry our messages.
• My clinical supervisor. As BACP requires, I discuss my work in supervision, without sharing anything that identifies you.
• Cloudflare, which hosts this website and briefly keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the site secure.

Therapy is confidential. I would only share information without your agreement in rare cases, such as if I believed you or someone else was at serious risk of harm, or if the law required it. Wherever possible, I would talk to you first.

This website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your device’s IP address is sent to Google when you visit. No cookies are set.

How long I keep it

I keep your information only for as long as I need it. Enquiries that don’t lead to sessions are deleted once they are no longer needed. Client records and order details are kept for the period required by my professional body, insurers and tax rules, and then securely deleted.

Keeping it safe

Your information is stored securely, on password-protected devices and accounts, and any paper notes are kept locked away.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information I hold about you, and to ask me to correct it, delete it, or limit how I use it. You can also object to how I use it, and withdraw your consent at any time where I rely on it. Just get in touch using the details above, and I will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please talk to me first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
